SGS Power Continues Its Growth in Marine Technical Services

Marine engines, generator systems, technical service, and overhaul operations are among the most critical components of operational continuity in the maritime industry. For shipowners in particular, fast service, reliable technical support, and accurate engineering solutions have become increasingly important — not only in terms of cost management, but also for operational safety.

Operating as one of the authorised sales and service partners of Cummins, SGS Power has earned recognition in the sector through its solution-oriented approach in marine engines, generator systems, retrofit projects, overhaul operations, and technical service infrastructure. We spoke with SGS Power Business Development Manager Özden Parsak about the company’s growth story, technical structure, and future goals.

“Our Goal Was to Build a Technically Accessible and Solution-Oriented Structure”

Highlighting that the team behind SGS Power has been actively involved in the maritime industry for many years, Özden Parsak stated:

“Our partners have extensive field experience dating back to 2005 in marine engines, generator systems, service operations, technical engineering, and spare parts. When we established SGS Power in 2021, our main objective was to bring this know-how together under a stronger and more focused organisation. Especially in the field of marine engines and generator systems, we aimed to build a structure capable of providing fast response, technical accessibility, and solution-oriented service. Today, we position ourselves not merely as a product supplier, but as a solution partner that shipowners, ship management companies, and technical teams can reach whenever they need support.”

Cummins’ Global Infrastructure Provides a Significant Advantage

Parsak explained that being one of Cummins’ authorised sales and service partners provides major technical and operational advantages:

“One of the biggest advantages is direct access to original products and Cummins’ global technical infrastructure. Today, one of the most critical issues for many shipowners is operational continuity. Ships do not wait and operations do not stop. In such situations, fast access to the correct spare part and reliable technical support become extremely important. Being within the authorised structure enables us to provide faster and more reliable support to our customers, especially in critical operations, thanks to original spare part access, technical documentation, and service infrastructure.”

Solutions Tailored to the Needs of Each Segment

Parsak emphasised that every operation in the marine sector has different requirements:

“While durability and low operating costs are priorities for commercial fishing vessels, operational continuity and fuel efficiency become more critical for ferries. In superyacht projects, expectations such as silence, compact structure, and comfort may stand out. Instead of a standard product sales approach, we focus on developing application-specific solutions. We provide alternatives tailored to customer operations in areas such as main engines, auxiliary generators, repower projects, modernisation works, and custom generator production solutions.”

Early Involvement in Projects Makes the Difference

Highlighting that marine projects are not solely about supplying engines, Parsak said:

“Space limitations, class requirements, existing infrastructure, and operational needs all need to be evaluated together. Therefore, we try to become involved in projects as early as possible. Starting from the initial technical assessment, we follow the entire process including correct engine or generator selection, integration, commissioning, and service support. Our main objective is to help customers manage the process in a more controlled, faster, and more efficient manner.”

Retrofit Projects Provide Serious Operational Advantages

Parsak stated that extending the lifespan of existing assets correctly has become increasingly important for shipowners:

“Especially in ageing vessels, the efficiency of engine and generator systems may decrease, failure frequency may increase, and maintenance costs may rise. Properly planned retrofit or repower projects can provide serious advantages at this point. Improvements in fuel consumption, reductions in maintenance costs, more stable operations, and fewer unplanned shutdowns are among the key gains. In some cases, overhaul or specific system modernisations may be a more appropriate solution than complete replacement. Rather than imposing a single solution, we prefer evaluating the most technically and commercially suitable approach together with the customer.”

Time Is Truly Critical in Maritime

“Time literally means money in maritime,” Parsak noted.

“Especially considering vessel schedules, shipyard planning, and operational pressure, fast response is critically important. One of our biggest advantages is being located in Tuzla, the centre of the marine industry. Considering Istanbul Strait transits as well as Tuzla and Yalova shipyards, we are operationally very close to our customers. With our technical team and service organisation, we can ensure rapid coordination and take fast action in field interventions, overhaul planning, and technical support whenever needed. At the same time, we try to keep critical spare parts readily accessible in our Tuzla warehouse. When necessary, we focus on producing fast solutions through Cummins’ global supply infrastructure.”

Our Goal Is to Become a Strong Regional Marine Partner

Parsak concluded by stating that SGS Power aims to further strengthen its service and overhaul capabilities in the coming period:

“In this context, investment in a stronger service and overhaul centre is currently on our agenda. Another important focus area is improving our capabilities in marine generator production solutions. We continue investing in order to provide more comprehensive genset solutions suitable for marine applications. Over the next five years, we aim to position SGS Power not only as a product supplier, but as a stronger and more trusted regional marine partner in technical support, service, and solution management.”
